Painting Trees comments

I observed many different moves between these videos of these artists.  The most noticeable ones were the Bob Ross ones I thought, because he use sayings such as "happy little trees...".  Also, he used a calm voice and he was very repetitive in what he said.  Other moves that I saw were from the Disney artists.  For example, some of them didn't go into much detail and also they had different ways to express what they were doing and how they reached the finish of their painting.  These artists describe what they are doing through their thought process.  They talk about the things they are focusing on, or what kind of look they are trying to achieve.  They artists always refer back to the specific space that they are focusing on, or picture that they are focusing on.  These artists usually direct our attention the the brush strokes that they are doing and the paint they are using.  Each artist has a different style.  Bob Ross is more realistic in his paintings, while I think that the other artists can be more related to other painters like Van Gogh or Picasso.  Each artists has decided to illustrate their paintings in their own way.  That is how even though these painters all paint the same thing, they all present it in a different genre.

  1. I also thought it was cool how the artists kept referring back to their original ideas of the tree. Each one wanted to capture a different aspect of the tree and how they painted the tree was them trying to capture that aspect. I also agree that Bob Ross was more realistic than some of the disney ones.

  2. Luke,

B-Ross was a little repetitive, but we've gotta ask: why? Well, if you think about it, his purpose for his video was different than the Disney artists' purpose -- his goal was to instruct viewers on HOW to paint, whereas the Disney artists were moreso describing what/why they painted.

It's important that pay attention to these little rhetorical details. Solid work, my man.

  3. I totally agree with you about the different styles of the Disney artists and how they distinguish their own moves. I thought it was interesting how you talked about the teacher's voice as a move. That makes complete sense and I think that voice plays a huge role in learning. I liked how you talked about the specific space with artist is focussing on too because they are all different, and express their individual moves.
